I was reminded today, in a roundabout way, that maybe its time to make Angus available for adoption.
Fine. He's going to make someone incredibly happy. I've been lucky to have him, teaching him HOW to learn. First, we corrected Angus's eyelids so he could see better. That's pretty important, considering that he's as deaf as a teenager being asked to do chores.
I don't think he really knew much about communicating before he came to rescue. Getting and holding his attention was an exercise in problem solving. Because you can't whistle, clap, call out, stomp your feet, screech, or holler. And jumping up and down doesn't help unless you're in his line of sight.
But! Now I can say, "good", "come", "hi", "kennel up" and "sit", "don't run me over"... And a little finger touch that means "look at me, I'm talking to you".
I'm looking for a family that thinks. Angus isn't going to learn by accident so you've got to think about the world from his point of view. And eat your spinach because you'll need some muscle when he wants to chase butterflies. (Did I just date myself?) But, hear me know and believe me later, you're not going to out muscle him and that's why you have to THINK too. He's BIG. At least 70 pounds of Sampson with a full head of hair. And he thinks he's just a cute little puppy that can just bounce around like the ball in a pinball machine.
Angus loves hugs. He loves to run and play. He loves to hang out with his sister.
Angus does NOT like to be surprised from behind and he has a startle reflex. My feeling is that past owners were frustrated when he didn't "listen" and they were less than gentle in getting his attention. He has NEVER shown aggression to a human while he has been in rescue. I have no indication that he ever has. I know he CAN have a dog friend and we are very strict about good dog to dog introductions.
I'd love for Angus to be in a home with a fenced yard so he can explore freely. Bigger kids would be fine...smaller ones might just be speed bumps. I'll teach you how to communicate with Angus. Its hard to remember that he can't hear you when you call him. My favorite part of the day is watching his face light up like a hundred suns when he sees me say "Hi".
Angus is a 1 year Pit Bull or some related breed. Remember, when God was handing out muscle, he got in line twice. He went back 3 times to the sweetness line.
